Dr. Domingo Alvear was presented with the Central Penn Parent Magazine's Physician of the Year Award during a brunch on March 22, 2010. Dr. Alvear was recommended for this award by a patient. He was also honored in their May 2010 magazine which can be found at Central Penn Parent Magazine.

When he was just eight years old, Dr. Alvear used his uncle's stethoscope as a prop in a school play. That incident from his childhood in the Phillippines spurred his love of medicine and motivated him to become a pediatric surgeon and chief of the division of pediatric surgery at PinnacleHealth System. He is also president of the World Surgical Foundation. He takes a personal interest in each of his patients and works hard to help them understand the complexities of their condition. Promoting pediatric medicine around the globe, he routinely takes mission trips to help children in third world countries. "I founded the World Surgical Foundation in 1997," he says, "because I felt htere was a need for a different focus in surgical missions to third world countries. I have encouraged many of my colleagues locally as well as nationwide to join me in this effort. Thus far, we have performed over 3,000 surgical procedures to our less fortunate brothers and sisters and children in third world countries."
